While not confirmed by a medical professional, it's safe to say that I am 100% a mosquito magnet. If there is one within a hundred yards of where I'm standing outside, it will zip right over to me and start going full-on vampire on my blood. It's annoying too because Adam never gets bit but I just think about being outside and bam! I'll get 5 bites in 5 seconds easily. And when I get bit, I get massive itchy welts that can last for days. Basically, it sucks.

And now that I have Miles, it's even more important when I do go outside in the muggy Georgia heat that I keep those pesky mosquitos away from not only me but Miles as well. And while there are a million products and remedies that you can use to repel mosquitoes, I recently tried out internet favorite Johnson & Johnson Baby Creamy Oil as bug spray. Apparently using this baby product to protect your skin against repelling mosquitos is a pretty common practice among parents – who knew!

Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil Cream As Bug Spray

Obviously, Johnson & Johnson Baby Creamy Oil is meant to be used for babies on their sensitive and delicate skin to keep it hydrated and soft. We've been using a variety of Johnson & Johnson products on Miles since he was born and we love that the brand is affordable and easily accessible for us first-time parents. I also love the smell of all these gentle baby products, it's so delicious! So the fact that it can serve double duty and also repel those unwanted insects is a win-win!

Again, I'm not a scientist or a doctor so I'm not sure how the aloe vera and vitamin E work to make this baby lotion simultaneously keep skin soft while being a bug repellent but hey, it does! Apparently, the formula of water, cetyl alcohol, soybean oil, shea butter extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, cocoa seed butter, and mineral oil work together as a barrier for your skin. Mosquitoes have a hard time biting through the baby oils which is how it all works to keep you bite-free.

How To Use Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil Cream As Bug Spray

The buzz (no pun intended) around using Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil Cream is nothing new. People are always looking for alternative ways to keep those bugs from biting our skin. Avon Skin So Soft Lotion is also another beloved double-duty product. But I haven't tried that one yet so I can't speak to that. But I will say Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil Cream does work for me! Here are a few things to keep in mind before trying it on your own family.

Do A Test Run

Before you start lathering the fast-absorbing creamy Johnson and Johnson baby oil all over your body and head outside, do a test run first. You want to make sure it actually repels the mosquitos that are in your area and driving you crazy. I went out in jeans and a t-shirt and just used it on my arms. I only spent about 10 minutes outside and was shocked – no bites!

Have Realistic Expectations

No product is 100% fool-proof when it comes to being an insect repellent. I typically use the Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil Cream as bug spray when I'm hanging out in the front yard with Miles or a late-night family walk around the neighborhood. I don't expect this product to be strong enough though to prevent mosquito bites in the middle of the forest on a long hike. I'd break out the big guns for that.

Lather It On

You have to use enough of the cream for it to actually work. So I apply it to my skin like I would a standard lotion post-shower. A couple of squirts on my legs and ankles, a few more for my arms and neck, etc. Don't skip on your application – you want to create a full oil barrier on your skin.
